Route Details

All details on these pages relate to the 2013 event and may change for 2016

Registration will be at the Dubai Creek Golf Club, Boardwalk car park at 7am followed by the run briefing.

The relay will start at the head of the Creek opposite the old Country Club and will pass by the Flamingo Sanctuary following the edge of the water with the first changeover point near where the canal is located.

From there the second leg follows the canal before reaching Al Jadaf Shipyard.

Leg three proceeds through the old fishing village before the first crossing at Business Bay Bridge finishing at the Honda Showroom.

It's then under Garhoud bridge, along past the golf club before the second crossing which is Maktoum Bridge.

The change is at the Dubai Law Courts.

The course then follows that of previous years although the stage numbers are advanced by one.

Change overs are at the Shindaga Tunnel (3rd crossing under the Creek) and the Chamber of Commerce.

Leg 7 heads back towards the golf club before crossing the Floating Bridge (4th crossing) then turning left before the changeover at Wonderland.

The final leg includes the 5th and final Creek crossing. Once Garhoud Bridge has been negotiated the route again follows along beside the golf club finishing in the car park at the Boardwalk.

Each stage is mapped and fully detailed in the following pages

CR2012 Stage1 3.4km

REGISTRATION is at a different location to the start

Following the briefing we will proceed to the run start

START for this event will be at the lay-by for the Flamingo Sanctuary on Ras Al Khor Road

Stage 1 — 3.4 km Flamingo Sanctuary Lay-By (Ras Al Khor Road E44) to Fence Corner (about 500m past Petrol Station)

The start of the event is at the path leading to the Flamingo viewing gallery.

This is at the lay-by on the Ras Al Khor (Hatta) Road at the head of the Creek.

Follow the hard sand track beside the fence that borders the Creek.

After about 1.5km try to stay close to the fence even though there are some trenching and dewatering works in progress in this area.

Keep to this track until reaching the next lay-by.

It is pretty obvious.

On leaving the lay-by the ground becomes a little uneven so keep to the paved road then run on the dirt track beside the main road, but continue keeping the fence on your right.

Continue for about another 500m.
The changeover point is 50m before the fence turns hard right.

CR2012 Stage2 4.8km

Stage 2 — 4.8 km Canal (Fence Corner) to Al Jadaf Shipyard

Turn right immediately after the changeover and follow the trail marked with orange paint (on rocks). (Be prepared for a little soft sand over the next kilometre or so)

The track continues between the Creek and the new Business Bay canal.

The best route is along the edge of the canal that will be on the runners left.

Continue to the sand bridge.

Turn left over the sand bridge and then at the end, turn right.

Follow the edge of the canal (now on your right) until reaching the track that takes you up to the road.

Follow this sand track up to the bitumen road and turn right.

Follow the road until the bitumen ends.

Continue straight ahead for a very short distance and turn right immediately past the old wooden dhow. (orange arrow on Dhow)

Follow the sand road back out onto the bitumen surface and continue straight ahead until reaching the changeover point about 100m before the roundabout in front of Jadaf Shipyard, opposite Grand Weld.
As said above this section of the route will be marked with orange paint on rocks or other convenient items when the route is not obvious.

CR2012 Stage3 4.3km

Stage 3 — 4.3 km Jadaf Shipyard to the Honda Showroom

Continue across the little roundabout and go under the Metro viaduct.

There will be an orange arrow directing runners to the right.

Follow the sand road, and the orange paint marks, parallel to the Metro then veer left through the old fishing village and continue towards Business Bay Bridge.

At the end of the village head slightly left to the end of the road barriers before carefully crossing this and heading up to Business Bay Bridge.

Cross the bridge, following the chalk marks, staying on the right and following the footpath until you reach the traffic lights. Cross at the traffic lights straight ahead and immediately on the other side go down the small embankment into the carpark.

Keep following the chalk arrows veering right until you reach the edge of the Creek.

Turn right and follow the wide path that will take you underneath the bridge.

Just before the path ends turn right up to the road.

Turn left and follow this to the roundabout.
Turn right then left at the lights following the path along to the changeover point 3 opposite the Honda Showroom.

CR2012 Stage4 4.5km

Stage 4 — 4.5 km Honda Showroom To Dubai Law Courts

Follow the path that takes you back towards the Creek.

Stay on the main path to the left of the bridge and continue until you can turn right and go under the bridge.

On the other side turn right again and follow the path this time heading away from the Creek. (do not go up on to Garhoud Bridge)

Keep the Creek Golf Club on your left.

Beware some areas are very narrow so watch the cars.

Continue all the way until you get to the traffic lights at the entrance to the golf club.

Keep going straight ahead and cross at these lights and head towards Maktoum Bridge keeping the big excavation on your left.

Follow the path around to the left and cross Maktoum Bridge

As you get towards the other side look for the stairs/ramp on the left and go down to changeover point 4 located at the small booth in front of the entrance gate to the Creekside Park.
(Same place as the drink stop for the Creek Striders Half Marathon)

CR2012 Stage5 5.8km

Stage 5 — 5.8 km Law Courts to Shindaga Tunnel

From the changeover point head towards the Creek edge.

At the Creek turn left under the bridge. Follow the path around and up to the road then turn right heading away from the Creek.

Follow this path down and alongside the compound wall then right along the front of the compound, to the small roundabout. Turn left and follow the wall (keep it on your right all the way), which will eventually bring you back to the Creek side.

Veer left and continue along the edge of the Creek. (Past the British Embassy which is on the other side of the road)

At the roundabout stay on the Creek side (do not follow the road) as far as possible all the way past the Ruler’s Office building to your left.

Turn left and then almost immediately right into the Souk entrance. If you hit the water you’ve gone too far!! (Go back and take the first right into the Souk)

Continue through the Souk, past the Abra Station, and out at the far end. Access is limited through the Souk. It is not usually too busy on a Friday morning, but please don’t knock anyone over.

At the exit from the Souk, bear slightly right again to the Creek side and follow the Creek all the way past the Heritage Village to the sea.
The change over point is at the Al Shindaga pedestrian tunnel. (This is just before Port Rashid)

CR2012 Stage6 4.0km

Stage 6 — 4.0 km Shindaga Tunnel to Chamber of Commerce

Pass through the Shindaga tunnel.

As you exit the tunnel turn left and run across the sand keeping the Creek to your right.

Go out onto the Corniche and run towards the City (with the Creek still on your right!) along the Corniche past the Dhows and Abra stations, between the Sheraton Hotel and the Creek edge.
The changeover point 6 is located at the end of the path at a small roundabout near the Chamber of Commerce.

CR2012 Stage7 4.9km

Stage 7 — 4.9 km Chamber of Commerce To Wonderland (Garhoud Bridge )

Continue past the new Dhow Wharfs to the pedestrian tunnel under the Al-Maktoum Bridge road. (Do not go through the road underpass)

Continue straight ahead to the Floating Bridge road.

Cross at the traffic lights and then turn right.

Cross the floating bridge via the left side footpath.

At the next traffic lights turn left and follow the path all the way to Wonderland keeping the Creekside Park on the left.

At the end of the park and after the start of Wonderland follow the road around to the left.
The changeover point 7 is just before the main entrance to Wonderland.

CR2012 Stage8 4.4km

Stage 8 – 4.4km Wonderland over Garhoud Bridge to the Boardwalk and Finish

At the bottom turn right and follow the path all the way to the traffic lights and the entrance to the golf club.

The golf club will be on your left to whole way.

Beware some areas are very narrow so watch the cars.

Once at the intersection go left and left and past the security gate and into the golf club grounds following the road until you reach the roundabout and the entrance to the Boardwalk car park.
